Man Charged With Negligent Homicide In Crash That Killed Woman, 95: PD
Janet Bruno Harvey, then-95, died six days after a serious June 2022 crash near the Twin Pines diner. Now, a 60-year-old man is charged.

EAST HAVEN, CT —On the morning of June 30, 2022, a 95-year-old woman driving an older model Corolla was involved in what police then described as a serious crash at the intersection of Saltonstall Parkway and Main Street.
Janet Bruno Harvey died a few days later as a result of injuries sustained in the two-vehicle crash.
Now, a year later, police have charged a New Haven man with vehicular negligent homicide, East Haven police Capt. David Emerman confirmed for Patch.

Glen Norton DiRenzo, 60, has a lengthy criminal record that includes a high-profile 2015 case where he was later convicted in a brutal stabbing of a then-18-year-old near a Sargent Drive hotel.
At the time of the crash that would later claim Harvey's life, East Haven police reported that it was around 9:45 a.m. on the last day of June when the East Haven Public Safety Dispatch center received several 911 calls from motorists. The crash involved a pickup truck and a small sedan —a 1995 Toyota Corolla driven by Harvey — both with heavy front end damage. East Haven firefighters extricated Harvey from the vehicle and after treating her on scene, she was rushed to Yale New Haven Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

She died July 6, 2022.
In her obituary published by Patch last July, her family wrote: "She worked in news, healthcare, banking and retired as a librarian and continued to volunteer. Janet crocheted thousands of hats and blankets for hospitals, churches, family and friends throughout her life. She had a passion for reading, praying and following hockey. Janet’s family would like to thank all the first responders and the staff of Yale New Haven Hospital for the exceptional care shown to Janet."
