Somers Celebrates Memorial Day
Students put together a presentation to honor those who have or are currently serving in the armed forces.
Back in November, 15 Somers High School students were already thinking about and preparing for Memorial Day. After countless hours and much preparation, the day has finally arrived.
The Memorial Day presentation at , which was completely student run, focused on freedom and how lucky we are that we have veterans who were willing to serve to keep us free.
First Selectwoman Lisa Pellegrini attended the event and spoke about freedom and how lucky we are that we can do what we want because we live in a free country. She asked everyone to thank a veteran during this holiday season.

The main speaker, Tim Keeney, is a retired Navy Seal who served actively for three years, and then 32 years in the reserves. He gave a speech on remebering those who gave their life for our freedom, and that we should honor everyone associated with them, including their families, pilots, supervisors, and suppliers.
Also at the ceremony, a video of Arlington National Cemetery was shown. It was a documentary on how each stone in that cemetery tells a story.
