Deadline Extended For Victim Statements In Fairfield Fill Pile Case

The deadline to enter victim impact statements to the court in the Jason Julian case has been extended.

FAIRFIELD, CT — With sentencing for contractor Jason Julian in the Fairfield fill pile case moved to Feb. 9, residents still have time to submit victim impact statements to the court, First Selectman Bill Gerber announced.

Residents now have until 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 6, to submit victim impact statements in the Julian case.

Julian, who was contracted by the town to operate fill sites in town, pleaded guilty in December to the following charges in connection with the illegal dumping and corruption case:

  • Engaging In the Business of Collection, Storage, Treatment, Removal, and Disposal of Certain Substances, Materials and Wastes Without a Permit
  • 2 counts of Illegal Disposal of Material Containing Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs)
  • 3 counts of Discharging of Materials Into the Waters of Connecticut Without a Permit

Related bribery charges against Julian were dismissed by the court.

Fairfield residents also have until 4 p.m. on Friday to submit victim impact statements in the cases of Brian Carey and Emmet Hibson, who have also been charged in the case, but are again seeking accelerated rehabilitation.

Hibson is the town's former human resources director, and Carey is the former interim DPW director. The two were denied the special probationary program once before; Carey has also been found not guilty of some related charges in the case.

"I am preparing impact statements for all three defendants and will send them to the Court on behalf of the Town," Gerber said in a statement. "I encourage you to submit your own."
