On Monday, Winding Trails welcomed Roz Terwilliger, one of the original campers who attend Winding Trails Day Camp in 1947.
Roz graced Winding Trails camp opening and answered questions about her time here at the Trails.
The event was attended by the 613 present campers, 150 camp staff members, and reporters from three local networks.
Roz was 7 years old when she attended first camp and continued for six more years.
Camp back then cost $4.35 for a one-week session, had 60 campers, and four program areas.
The activities were swimming in Walton Pond, arts and crafts, nature and sports.
Today camp boasts 15 program areas.
Roz’s favorite activity at camp was swimming.
One of the stories Roz told was all the campers were dropped off each day behind the corn field on Route 4 and they all walked from there to camp and then back again in the afternoon.
She recalled the afternoon walk was often “hot and they were very tired.”
Roz attended camp with a friend who soon became her best friend to this day.
