Wednesday, October 1
Varsity Field Hockey: L 0-5 to Westminster
Recap: Despite losing 0-5, Porter’s had some tough play by several individuals, including another gutsy performance by Julia Moran ‘15 in goal. Westminster drew 18 offensive corners and 24 total shots on goal, while Porter’s had one offensive corner and one shot on goal.

Varsity Soccer: L 0-2 to Westminster
Recap: Porter’s varsity soccer played with heart and looked dangerous on a counter attack, but Westminster moved the ball quickly and looked to get the ball wide, creating one-on-one situations early. Fifteen minutes in Porter’s was defending well until a cross from the touchline found an unmarked Westminster player at the back post to tap it in. Hard work in the second half proved again that Porter’s can compete with anyone they face.

Varsity Volleyball: L 1-3 to Wilbraham & Monson
Recap: Porter’s started the match in modest form, but without the defensive tenacity that has become the trademark of Porter’s varsity volleyball. Despite the lack of identity on the court, Porter’s managed to hold off a late surge by W&M and win the first set. A tight second set saw both teams battling and a 24-24 deuce, but late missed serves conceded the set to W&M. Porter’s would continue to struggle with unforced errors in a close set 3, losing 25-21.

Varsity Field Hockey: L 1-7 to Taft
Recap: Porter’s varsity field hockey traveled to Taft on a windy and rainy day. Fighting both the weather and injuries, the team battled hard but ultimately were unable to get the win. A beautiful moment came with 2 minutes left in the game when the Porter’s offense pushed forward and earned an offensive corner. Taking advance of the opportunity, Catie Bernard ‘15 shot a low ball towards the goal, which was stopped and turned to the left post by Bri Gambacini ‘17 and knocked in by Kristen Riley ‘15. Recap: For the first time this season Porter’s varsity soccercame out slow, allowing Pomfret to move the ball quickly and confidently. Pomfret took the lead midway through the first half from a lapse in concentration from the back line. The second half was more even, however there were three errors off of set pieces, which solidified the win for the visiting team. Sam Houle ‘17 and Kyra Bukowski ‘18 showed tremendous energy and desire from the start to the finish. Porter’s takes its 3-5-1 record into two games next week, playing Taft and Kent.

Sunday, October 6
Varsity Crew: Head of the Riverfront
Recap: Porter’s crew faced a long and demanding course this weekend, racing a distance of 2.25 miles against the strong current of the Connecticut River and pushing the rowers to their limits. Although the 4+ has been seeing great improvements in their physical capacity during land training over the past few weeks, their ability to maintain a level of consistency in their technique became a deterrent for speed down the course.
