Meteorologist Geoff Fox Makes A Decision On His Future
The popular Connecticut weather forecaster, now living in California and recovering from pancreatic cancer, was back at WTNH this summer.

Geoff Fox is leaving WTNH-TV again, Fox announced on his Facebook page Monday night. It was, he said, a tough decision.
Fox, who is recovering from pancreatic cancer, returned to Channel 8 in a temporary capacity this summer. While he wanted to make the return permanent and transition back to full-time, he said the station offered him a part-time post that he turned down. Connecticut meteorologist Joe Furey will join Storm Team 8 in early October.
"Though our agreement was just for the summer, early on I made it clear to Channel 8 I was interested in a full time position," wrote Fox on Facebook. "Friday they made an offer for a part time job. It was for less than I made when I first arrived in 1984. I had no choice but to reject that offer. It was one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever made."

Fox lives in California. In addition to his work at Channel 8, he does weather for a station in Nebraska. He shoots segments for both remotely, from a home studio.
"I’d like to thank everyone at Channel 8 for the opportunity to be back on TV," he wrote. "This ending doesn’t diminish what was. It was a pretty great summer I wish wouldn’t stop."

It's been a busy summer for weather forecasters at Channel 8. Beside's Fox's exit and Furey's hiring, the station also grappled with the unexpected medical leave of meteorologist Gil Simmons, who was away from the station for two months. Simmons announced recently that he will return to the airwaves on Monday, Sept. 18.
