A skimmer is an illegal device criminals attach to card readers to capture and steal data from the magnetic strips on cards. Most skimmers fit over card readers but those at fuel pumps are usually attached to a machine’s internal wiring.
This marks another instance of a credit card skimmer being found in a Connecticut store. Recently, another was found at a Dollar General in Norwich.
The devices have also been discovered recently in Connecticut towns including East Windsor, Brooklyn, Montville, and New London.
Last month, Town of Groton police said they checked multiple businesses for illegally installed credit and debit card skimming devices.
