Groton 2019 Local Elections: Candidates, Polling Places, Hours

Here's what you need to know about Tuesday's 2019 Groton local elections including the candidates, polling places, voting hours and more.

GROTON, CT — As voters head to the polls Tuesday, Nov. 5 to vote in Groton's municipal election, here's what you need to know.

There are many seats up for grabs on the Town Council, RTM and Board of Education.

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters who are in line before 8 p.m. will be able to vote even after the deadline passes. You can find your poll location at the Secretary of the State website by inputting your information.

The candidates for Board of Education are: Democrats, Frances Whitney, Dane Stevenson, Kim Shepardson Watson, Rita Volkmann, and Liz Porter. Republican candidates include: Gretchen Newsome and Jay Weitlauf. Residents will vote for any five candidates.

The candidates for the Town Council are: Democrats, Patrice Granatosky, Lian Obrey, Joe Zeppieri, Juliette Parker, Portia Bordelon, Juan Melendez, Aundre Bumgardner, Conrad F. Heede, and Rachel Franco.

The Republican candidates include: Eric Ossmann, Jenn White, John Goodrich, Lauren Gauthier, David Preka, Chase Foster, Ken Richards, Angela McGuirk, and Bruce Flax.

Residents will vote for any nine candidates.


RTM Candidates by Voting District:

First District

Democratic candidates: Sheila Perry, Wilmer Lambert, Ali Starkley, and Roscoe Merritt.

Republican candidates: Karin Adams, Kathy Chase. You'll vote for any seven candidates.


Second District

Democratic candidates: Beverly Washington, Portia Bordelon, Syma A. Ebbin

Republican candidate: Eric Ossmann. You'll vote for any four candidates.


Third District

Democratic candidates: Dane Stevenson, Autumn Hanscom, Albert Colon, Jil Rusk

Republican candidates: Taylor Salva, Chase Foster. You'll vote for any six candidates.


Fourth District

Democratic candidates: Michael Whitehouse, Shawn D. Powers, Nancy Driscoll, and Kristen Powers

Republican candidates: David Gauthier, Robert Bailey, Lauren Gauthier. You'll vote for any seven candidates.


Fifth District

Democratic candidates: Juan Melendez, Melinda Cassiere, Gary Welles, Michael Witney

Republican candidates: Susan Deane-Shinbrot, Rosanne Kotowski. You'll vote for any five candidates.


Sixth District

Democratic candidates: Cindy Fortner, Jeanne Baker, Rachel Franco, Jim Gustavson, and Kate Richards

Republican candidates: Thomas Frickman, Bruce Flax. You'll vote for any seven candidates.


Seventh District

Democratic candidates: Jen Desillier-Fleming, Clarence Casper, Nancy Mello Miller, and Bruce Jones.

Republican candidates: Lynn Crockett Hubbard, Paul McGurk, and Scott Newsome. You'll vote for any five candidates.


Connecticut offers Election Day registration, but those who arrive need to be registered by 8 p.m. in order to vote. Unlike previously registered voters standing in line before 8 p.m. to registrar won't guarantee the ability to vote.
