Teen, 15, Charged With Robbing Man During Drug Deal: Hamden PD

Police say the victim was "pistol-whipped" and had his wallet stolen before jumping out of a moving car during a drug deal.

HAMDEN, CT — A 15-year-old Winchester resident has been arrested in connection to a January robbery in which the victim was "pistol-whipped" during a drug deal and jumped out of a moving car in an attempt to escape, according to police. A 16-year-old New Haven resident was charged last month in connection to the robbery.

The robbery took place in the Warner Street area around 5 p.m. on Jan. 12. Capt. Ronald Smith said investigation revealed that the victim was first seen making a purchase with a "$100 bill" at a local service station. He was subsequently approached by an individual, who asked him if he wanted to purchase marijuana. The victim agreed and entered a vehicle that contained four passengers, according to Smith.

The victim was driven to Warner Street, at which time he was "pistol whipped" and his wallet was stolen, according to Smith. The victim told police that in an attempt to escape he "jumped out of the moving car." He sustained a broken ankle and was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for medical treatment, according to Smith.

Detective Joseph Liguori conducted an investigation that led to an arrest warrant for the 15-year-old Winchester resident.

The juvenile, whose name wasn't released due to his age, was arrested March 18. He was charged with first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, second-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit second-degree larceny and first-degree unlawful restraint. The teen, who was subsequently transported to the Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Center, is scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court in New Haven on March 22.
