Serrano said her 66-year-old stepfather needed an oxygen tank to breathe and he quickly succumbed to the smoke and flames.

"His selfless act allowed his grandson to evacuate the house safely. The family has suffered a tremendous loss, including the loss of life and total loss of belongings. Can you please pray for all of them, especially my mom, who has adopted four grandchildren and is navigating this immense challenge," wrote Serrano.

"The kids are still attending elementary, middle, and high school, and your prayers and donations will be a beacon of hope and comfort during this dark time. Please pray for them."

According to the GoFundMe page, $3,913 has been raised.
