HARTFORD, CT – “JAH-SMaRT” middle school on 339 Blue Hills Ave. in Hartford, held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, November 21, to officially open its brand-new science labs for the school’s fifth through eighth grade scholars. The construction started in June of 2019, and the completion of the labs continues Jumoke Academy’s process of focusing on improving its facilities across the district.

The new science labs were retrofitted inside the existing building, JAH-SMaRT, located on Blue Hills Ave. Crosskey Architects designed the space, while Downes Construction headed the project. The school was the site of one of the Comcast Cares Day volunteer initiatives held earlier this year, where hours of beautification work was completed thanks to volunteers. As a result of the Comcast volunteers and the renovation of the science labs, the middle school provides a new learning environment for its scholars.

The recent lab renovations and construction were funded by several state grants, and a donation campaign run by the Academy. The community of parents, partners, and local businesses interested in supporting STEM studies at Jumoke Academy rallied and donated to make sure the labs were completed during this school year. The labs were also outfitted with state-of-the-art technology so that the Jumoke Academy scholars can continue to compete with their counterparts in other Hartford area schools and beyond, which is in alignment with the Jumoke Academy mission.
