1. Crash In Hartford/West Hartford Cleared; Potential 'Serious Injury' Collision: Police: UPDATE (patch.com) — Morning commuters in Hartford faced major delays after a serious crash shut down I-84 West between Exits 45 and 44, with the Exit 44 on-ramp from West Hartford also closed. State police report potential serious injuries and are continuing their investigation, while the main highway has since reopened and drivers are urged to use caution and consider alternate routes.
   

2. CT River Paddlers Take Note: Connecticut Cold-Water Boating Season Begins Oct. 1 (patch.com) — If you paddle on the Connecticut River or other state waters near Hartford, you must now wear a Coast Guard-approved life jacket on kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, and rowboats from Oct. 1 through May 31. DEEP officials warn that cold water greatly increases the risk of shock and hypothermia, and they're also enforcing a new rule requiring contact information on unregistered paddle craft.
   

3. New CT rules for automated license plate readers, including Flock (wfsb.com) — New rules taking effect today in Hartford and statewide change how police use automated license plate readers, including Flock cameras many departments rely on. Data can now be shared only with certain nearby states under strict conditions, kept for no more than 21 days, and searched only for specific cases, with added audits to protect residents' privacy.
   

4. MDC Completes $138M Pump Station for South Hartford Sewer Tunnel (constructionreviewonline.com) — Hartford and West Hartford residents will benefit from a newly completed $138 million pump station that brings the South Hartford Conveyance and Storage Tunnel close to full operation, reducing sewage overflows into local waterways and the Connecticut River. The four-mile tunnel, begun in 2019, can store over 41 million gallons during storms and is part of MDC's long-term Clean Water Project.
   

5. Haunted Cemetery Tours Will Return to West Hartford This October - We-Ha (we-ha.com) — West Hartford families looking for Halloween plans can reserve tickets now for West Hartford Hauntings, the lantern-lit cemetery tours at Old North Cemetery running Oct. 22, 23, 24, 29, and 30. This year's "America250" edition blends spooky storytelling with real local history and supports the Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society.
