Some Hartford Public Schools Close Amid Coronavirus Concerns

A handful of Hartford schools have closed.

HARTFORD, CT — Several Hartford schools are closing amid concern over the new coronavirus.

Here is the status of schools in the community as of 6:15 p.m. Thursday:

  • Betances STEM Magnet School is is CLOSED Friday, March 13, 2020.
  • Kennelly School is is CLOSED Friday, March 13, 2020.
  • SAND School dismissed early Thursday, March 12 and is CLOSED Friday, March 13, 2020 for cleaning.
  • All other Hartford Public Schools are OPEN.
  • All school international and out-of-state trips are CANCELLED.
  • All athletic events are CANCELLED.
  • Local field trips and events are being evaluated on an individual basis.

What Hartford Public Schools is Doing
Hartford Public Schools is working diligently to ensure our schools are safe through active infection prevention and control. Additionally, our district is prepared to respond to any risk of COVID-19 in our schools, should it become necessary. We are in regular, direct communication with our schools, the Hartford Health Department, Connecticut Department of Public Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for guidance and updates on recommended precautions. We will continue to keep families and staff informed directly through phone calls and emails.
The Hartford Public Schools Facilities team uses a rigorous disinfecting protocol to ensure that our schools are clean and safe for students, staff and families. Our custodial team has intensified their disinfecting protocol to include extra attention in common areas and frequently touched or shared surfaces.

Please contact your child’s Principal, School Nurse, or the HPS Health Services Department Hotline at (860) 695-8760, if you have any questions or concerns. The HPS Health Services Department Hotline will have a recorded message with daily updates. If you choose to leave a message, your call will be returned by HPS Health Services.
