2018 Election Year

Who Should We Vote For?

I saw this in today's Hartford Courant's Letters To The Editor: Watching the continuous news coverage concerning our broken, confusing and inhumane immigration policies and their cruel implementation is heartbreaking and offensive to me as a parent and an American. There is no question that any solution will be complex and driven by bipartisan compromise. It is my prayer that our senators and representatives set aside their political differences and immediately work diligently to pass a comprehensive and veto-proof set of immigration policies that reflect the sentiments of the people they have been elected to serve.
Edward Johnson, Wethersfield

This is what I thought about:
During the Constitutional Convention of 1787 there was an argument between the larger populated states and the smaller population. Larger wanted representation in congress based on population so they could have more votes. The smaller wanted wanted equal representation by all states. They could not agree and kept to their partisan views. Ct's Roger Sherman then proposed the system we have now, the Senate two to each state and the House Of Representatives the numbers of delegates is based on population. It got bipartisan support!! It is called The Connecticut Compromise (also known as the Great Compromise of 1787 or Sherman Compromise) Thomas Jefferson called Sherman "A man who never said a foolish thing in his life!" We need to be electing new Roger Sherman's.

It is important to learn about and to vote for the right person to be "For The People" Not "For The Party"
