Call to Immigrant Artists!

The word 'immigrant' is defined as “a person who comes to live permanently in a foreign country.” Unfortunately, owing to recent news stories, this word now carries some negative connotations. This fall, 2018, thanks to a grant from the Middletown Commission on the Arts, Russell Library will host a series of cultural programs highlighting the artistic contributions of immigrants in our community. Visual artists who immigrated to this country either years ago, or more recently, are invited to submit an application to show up to six pieces of their work at the library in the exhibit New Land, New Art.
Exhibit Dates: November 2 – December 28, 2018

Application due: Monday, September 17, 2018
Receiving artwork: (in person drop off) Monday, October 22 from 10am - 5pm
Opening reception: Friday, November 2
Eligibility: This exhibit is open to all immigrant artists who wish to display samples of their work for the enjoyment and edification of the Russell Library community and visitors.

Presentation: Work must be suitably framed and wired for hanging. Work on paper must be under glass or Plexiglas. All articles must have labels attached to the back upper left corner with the artist’s name, contact information, media type and date of piece. Sculptures may be accepted on a case-by-case basis. The library retains the right to refuse any work that is not appropriate for viewing by all ages.

Submissions: Email your application to artexhibits@russelllibrary.org by Monday, September 17, 2018. Please attach high-resolution (at least 800 x 600 pixels and/or 1 MB) JPG or PNG images of the pieces you would like to exhibit; be sure to provide the title, size and media for each.

Alternative to email: Applications may also be hand-delivered, along with your images on a CD or flashdrive.
