A message from the CTHM president...
Spring is finally making an appearance north of Hartford. Aren’t we all so pleased to see the days getting longer, the snow piles disappearing and the crocuses starting to bloom here and there? Is that a robin I see out the window? Wishing you a Happy Spring, and a blessed holiday weekend ahead.
Our committee is very busy and pleased to share that Phase Two of construction will begin this spring with most of the Memorial additions and design to be completed this year. What will be added?
- A stately and grand Entrance Plaza with overhead sign, stone faced columns and pillars, engravings, plaques and brick pavers
- A brick paved Flag Ceremonial Plaza with 90’ low sitting wall bearing an inscription/quote
- A 10’ wide brick paved walkway (currently crushed stone) that will also connect to the Flag Ceremonial Plaza and will encircle the reflecting pond
- Permanent tributes to honor all veterans, women veterans, military working dogs and a recognition to raise awareness of the silent wounds of war
- Custom designed, life-size feature sculpture (to be unveiled at Dedication ceremony in 2016)
- Lighting, electrical and security cameras
- Donor Recognitions
- Benches
- Gardens and landscaping

Our committee is meeting often to brainstorm, share ideas and decide on all elements of Phase Two. Tom Linden, our designer is working to finish our first bid packets for materials and construction; a professional team is working on an electrical, lighting and security camera design for the Memorial; city officials and department heads are coordinating with our professional teams, and local and state leaders are offering their assistance to secure and install highway and local road signs directing visitors to the Memorial. Formal invitations will be posted later this year to invite garden clubs and landscaping companies to submit design ideas for permanent gardens in the Memorial area that they will maintain.

Dedication Weekend – We will be announcing soon the date and preliminary details for Dedication of the Memorial to be held in spring of 2016. Big plans are in the works.
On a final note….
We owe a world of gratitude to our veterans, our fallen heroes, their families and those currently serving our great nation. We are proud and humbled to offer the CT Trees of Honor Memorial as a fitting and lasting tribute to forever honor, remember and teach the meaning of duty, sacrifice and love of country. A huge THANK YOU to all supporters past and present as you continue to purchase engraved bricks, sponsor benches or trees, donate monies, host fundraisers, spread the word or lend your talents, time, expertise and dedication to this project.
Best wishes for a wonderful spring!
Sincerely, Sue Martucci
