The Family Institute of Connecticut held a Pro-Life Free Speech Victory Rally on Tuesday, June 26th, at 4 pm, in Hartford representing the 27 Ct. Pregnancy Centers at the state Capitol. Many Pregnancy Centers across the state participated in this conference because the U.S. Supreme Court yesterday ruled that a California law is an unconstitutional abridgment of the free speech rights of pro-life pregnancy centers because it was not neutral but was content-based, meaning that it specifically targeted the speech of the abortion-alternative centers.
There is a Hartford Ordinance that is similar to the one in California that would have taken effect on July 1st. Originally it was going to go into effect on January 1st but because of a very large turnout of people opposing it from across the state went to a Public Hearing.
The city of Hartford announced the suspension Tuesday after the ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court overturned a California law that required faith-based pregnancy centers to tell their clients they can access free and low-cost abortion plans.

The Hartford Courant Reported: The Hartford ordinance, which was scheduled to take effect July 1, bans false or misleading advertising at faith-based centers, and requires them to disclose the medical credentials of their staff. Violations would have been punished with fines up to $100 a day.
Howard Rifkin, the city’s chief lawyer, said Tuesday he was working to understand whether the narrower Hartford ordinance is undermined by the Supreme Court ruling, which struck down a state law.

“As it stands, our position is that we’re not going to move forward with enforcement until we’re clear that we can,” Rifkin said, “or that if it’s challenged, the ordinance would stand up in court.”
