Resonant Motion, Inc. presents the third event in its 2018 'Sound Belief” series through the popular Jazz Up Close program! This year’s guests will share diverse original compositions springing forth from similarly diverse spiritual practices. For this event, composer and tuba and euphonium virtuoso Joseph Daley joins us, accompanied by bassist Henry Lugo and series curator Noah Baerman on piano.
His spiritually varied works include the epic large ensemble albums Seven Deadly Sins and Seven Heavenly Virtues as well as his more recent Prayer Rituals, which courageously depicts his coping with the tragic loss of his wife Wanda in a car accident and the different global healing traditions into which he has tapped. In addition to his ambitious work as a bandleader, his eclectic resume includes stints in the bands of jazz trailblazers like Sam Rivers, Carla Bley, Gil Evans, Charlie Haden, Muhal Richard Abrams, Makanda Ken McIntyre, Dave Douglas, and Gravity (the trailblazing low brass ensemble led by Howard Johnson), as well as prominent artists in other styles such as Taj Mahal and Hazmat Modine. Much of this work occurred during his concurrent thirty year career as an educator in the New York and New Jersey school systems, a testament to his ongoing commitment to share his wisdom about music and life with others.
This event is presented with the support of the Middletown Commission on the Arts and the CT Department of Economic and Community Development, Office of the Arts, which also receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, along with the Shoreline Arts Alliance.
