Middletown Mayor Considering Esty Seat Bid

The Mayor of Middleton is contemplating a run for the 5th District congressional seat.

MIDDLETOWN, CT— Middletown Mayor Dan Drew is considering running for the 5th District congressional seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty, The News-Times is reporting. Drew, a Democrat, is currently in his third term as mayor.

Drew does not live in the 5th district, which runs from Meriden and New Britain in central Connecticut, west to Danbury and the Housatonic Valley, including the Farmington Valley, Upper Naugatuck River Valley, and the Litchfield Hills. There is no legal requirement mandating that a congressional Representative reside in his district. The New Milford area, where three of Drew's four brothers and both of his parents still live, is situated in the 5th District.

In 2017, Drew was the first Democrat to throw his name into the ring for a gubernatorial run. In January, he withdrew from the race.
