Middletown Police Looking Into Molly Drug Source

The drug reportedly caused 11 Wesleyan students to be hospitalized.

On Sunday, February 22, Middletown emergency services responded to 11 calls for service involving Wesleyan students that overdosed on an illegal drug called Molly, or MDMA.

Of those 11, four were transported to Hartford Hospital for treatment, according to a press release from the Middletown Police Department. Two are listed in critical condition and two are listed in serious condition.

“We are following up on several leads,” police said. “However,due to the nature of this case and the amount of people involve the investigation will take some time to complete.”

The Middletown Police Department,the Middlesex County State’s Attorney’s Office, the State of Connecticut Forensics Science Laboratory and Wesleyan University will be working together to investigate the incidents surrounding these overdoes.

“We will be looking in to the origin of the drugs taken and determine the extent of the criminal involvement in the case,” police said. “We would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to talk to their family and friends about the dangers of taking illegal narcotics. The drug MDMA has been found in and around the community in the past few years.”
