STAMFORD, CT — More than nine months after his arrest on a charge of conspiracy to commit murder, attorney Kent Mawhinney is scheduled to appear in court on Monday where he is expected to post bond in connection with the Jennifer Farber Dulos case.

Mawhinney, a former friend of the late Fotis Dulos, was arrested in early January at the same time Fotis was charged with kidnapping and murdering Jennifer Dulos, Fotis' estranged wife. He has been incarcerated at the Cheshire Correctional Institution and will be transported to Stamford Superior Court Monday to post bond.

Initially, Mawhinney was held in lieu of bail of $2 million, for which he was unable to post bond. Last week, his attorneys successfully petitioned the court to have the bond reduced. On Monday he must put up $50,000 in cash (which his parents will post, according to his attorneys' motion), and a real estate property in Manchester, which has been appraised at being worth $196,000.

Mawhinney petitioned the court to reduce his bond so that he could visit his ailing father in Florida. The trip must meet with court approval before he can leave the state.

"Mr. Mawhinney's father is currently battling lymphoma and prostate cancer, which has metastasized to his spine and ribs," attorneys Lee Gold and Jeremy Donnelly wrote in the motion. "At age 86, it is taking its toll and limiting his daily activities substantially. Since it is not advisable to travel back to Connecticut, Mr. Mawhinney's father and mother have remained at their home in Florida."

Jennifer Dulos vanished on May 24, 2019. Her body has not been found, and she is presumed to be dead.

Fotis Dulos, whom Jennifer was in the midst of divorcing at the time of her disappearance, was charged with kidnapping and murdering her, but he died by suicide a couple of weeks after his January arrest, before he could stand trial.

In addition to Mawhinney, the other defendant in the conspiracy case is Fotis Dulos' former girlfriend, Michelle Troconis, who has been free on bond since her arrest on similar charges as Mawhinney. Last week, the state Appellate Court denied Troconis' request to have a GPS monitoring device removed from her ankle.

After posting bond, Mawhinney will be fitted for a similar GPS device, and he must turn over his passport to the court.

When Mawhinney's next court date is scheduled in the case, after Monday, has not been announced; he had been scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 24. Troconis is scheduled to next appear in court on Nov. 13.

Both Mawhinney and Troconis pleaded not guilty in connection with the Dulos case. Separately, Mawhinney faces unrelated charges in connection with a 2019 sexual assault case involving one of his former wives; he also pleaded not guilty in connection with that case.
