NEW CANAAN, CT — Fotis Dulos, the estranged husband of missing New Canaan mom Jennifer Farber Dulos, will be charged with murder at some point in the future, his attorney Norm Pattis predicted in a "Dateline" interview on NBC Monday night.

"I think the state wants to [charge Fotis Dulos]," Pattis told NBC News' Dennis Murphy, but added that they will vehemently fight the charge if or when it comes.

Dateline dedicated a full hour to "The Disappearance of Jennifer Dulos," including a brief interview in the final minutes with Fotis Dulos in which he says he did not have anything to do with her vanishing.

In fact, he claims to be holding out hope that she will return. "I wish she was here to sort this mess out," he said.

Fotis and Jennifer Dulos were in the midst of a contentious divorce and child custody battle at the time of her disappearance, and Fotis Dulos and his ex-girlfriend, Michelle Troconis, have been accused of discarding items following the disappearance that were stained with Jennifer Dulos' blood. Both Troconis and Fotis Dulos have been arrested twice in connection with the disappearance, and they have both pleaded not guilty.

Authorities believe Jennifer Dulos was killed in a violent attack in her home on May 24, and a folding hunting knife was likely used in the crime, writes the Hartford Courant. The knife was found by a man who later sold it for drugs, but police have not been able to find it.

Murphy interviewed New Canaan Police Chief Leon Krolikowski, Carrie Luft, spokesperson for Jennifer Dulos' family and friends, and others for the piece and spent much of the telecast recounting the many stories that have been published and aired about the disappearance.

The show describes the breakdown of the Dulos marriage, and how Jennifer Dulos said in court documents that she feared her husband.

It also explored the "Gone Girl" theory that Pattis hinted at earlier in the summer.

"It's hurtful to her family, her children and anyone who loved her," Luft said on Dateline about the theory, which was also criticized by author Gillian Flynn.
