Newtown 2018 Year in Review

NEWTOWN, CT — As if the town needed any more street cred for the resilience of its residents in 2018, Newtown was among the last communities in the area to see full power restored following the May macroburst which savaged southwestern Connecticut in May. The photos in this pictorial will remind you why that was.

Newtown was also ground zero for a wave of car burglaries that plagued a number of towns in southwestern Connecticut. Thieves kept swiping valuables from front seats, yet residents still resisted locking their vehicles after dark.

Newtown students excelled in the classroom and on the playing field, as well as wherever it is "die-ins" are held.

The Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings of 2012, now woven permanently into the town's DNA, still made headlines six years on when the town selected a fitting memorial for those lost, and families who lost ones in the massacre sued radio provocateur Alex Jones who contended it never happened.

Sadly, Newtown and Sandy Hook lost two of their Bravest in 2018, the youngest and the oldest. But on a much higher note, the rest of the world discovered what Newtowners have known for years: America's best ice cream can be found right in town.
