Newtown Won't Hold Formal Remembrance Ceremonies for 2-Year-Anniversary of Sandy Hook School Shooting

The day will be marked with quiet reflection.

The Town of Newtown will not hold formal ceremonies to mark the second anniversary of the Sandy Hook School shooting, according to town officials. A representative from First Selectman Pat Llodra’s office told Patch that Llodra did not have a further statement besides the one that was released in November.

Llodra and Superintendent Joseph Erardi released a joint statement in November stating, “The second anniversary, like the first one last year, will be recognized in personal reflection and remembrance. There are no formal or official ceremonies to be held by the town or school district.”

“We are so grateful to have the friendship and support of many beyond our borders, but there is no escape from the realization that we are where we are because of the horrible loss of lives that occurred at the school on that fateful day,” they said.
