📰 News we're reading

• NFA ends hockey program designed to attract students from the U.S. and abroad (theday.com) — Norwich Free Academy is shutting down its Norwich Hockey Club, a boys AAA program launched to boost post-pandemic revenue and international enrollment, after it failed to meet financial goals. Officials say the closure doesn't signal broader trouble attracting international students, and NFA is holding tuition flat for partner districts while enrollment stabilizes. The girls' hockey program and expanded international recruitment will continue.

• DEEP awards $5.1 million to help communities prepare for extreme weather (nbcconnecticut.com) — Norwich residents should know that Norwich Public Utilities is receiving $525,000 from Connecticut's Climate Resilience Fund to plan and design protections against extreme weather and related hazards. The grant is part of a $5.1 million statewide package aimed at helping communities like Norwich prepare for flash flooding, extreme heat, wildfire smoke, and other climate-driven risks before disasters strike.
