Here are the latest local updates on how the coronavirus outbreak is impacting Shelton and Derby.

SHELTON, CT — Coronavirus cases in the Naugatuck Valley continue to grow, especially in Shelton which has had 66 cases, including seven coronavirus-related deaths.

Several Valley-area nursing homes have cases. Glendale Center in Naugatuck, Shady Knoll Health Center in Seymour and Apple Rehab Shelton Lakes, Bishop Wicke Health and Rehabilitation and Gardner Heights Health Care Center in Shelton all have at least one confirmed coronavirus case, according to the Naugatuck Valley Health District.

The Shelton deaths include a man in his 90s, three men in their 80s, one man in his 70s and two women in their 90s. Five of the seven deaths are connected to nursing homes.

Derby has 19 confirmed coronavirus cases.

A Shelton Police officer in his 30s was infected with the coronavirus and had to be put on a ventilator. He is now recovering at home.

Shelton-based manufacturer Precision Resource announced 51 temporary layoffs due to the coronavirus.

The latest coronavirus updates from Shelton and Derby government
Shelton City hall is closed except for the town clerk and mayor's office, which are open by appointment only. Those who need to contact the town clerk can call 203-924-1555, extension 1503. The mayor's office is extension 1504.

All Shelton city parks, playgrounds and trails remain open. The police department is taking incident reports over the phone.

Derby Mayor Richard Dziekan ordered most city parks closed to help limit the spread of coronavirus. Derby Greenway remains open, but users are strongly encouraged to practice social distancing.

Shelton schools

Schools will remain closed until at least April 20 per Gov. Ned Lamont's executive order. April break is being modified to the following schedule:

  • Fri., April 10 (Good Friday): No distance learning.
  • Mon., April 13: No distance learning.
  • Tue., April 14: No distance learning.
  • Wed., April 15: Distance learning for staff and students.
  • Thur., April 16: Distance learning for staff and students.
  • Fri., April 17: Distance learning for staff and students.

Shelton/Derby businesses
