Southington Seafood Retailer Evacuated Due To Fire: Report

A blaze at a well-known seafood wholesaler/retailer in Southington has prompted an evacuation Friday afternoon.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A local fish market has been evacuated Friday afternoon after flames were reported in one of its buildings, according to emergency radio reports.

The initial call, at about 1:30 p.m., called units to the Gulf Shrimp Co.'s "second building."

According to the report, the address is 240 Atwater St. for a "confirmed electrical fire" in which flames were visible.

That blaze, according to dispatchers, prompted an evacuation of the building and all people were out of the site when the Southington Fire Department was called.

Gulf Shrimp specializes in retail and wholesale seafood sales and has an onsite seafood preparation service, where meals can be purchased and taken home, from lobster macaroni and cheese to stuffed shrimp.
