
Gregory Louis Montana, 84, of South Windsor, well known CT architect, died peacefully on Friday, April 20, 2018, at Glastonbury Health Care Center.
Beloved husband of Marshall (Kruse) Montana, he was born on March 21, 1934 in Springfield, MA, son of the late Alfred and Lucia (DeGregori) Montana. Gregory grew up in Springfield and graduated from Classical High School with the Class of 1951. He went on to graduate with a BS in Forestry from Paul Smith’s College before attending Syracuse University where he received a BA in Architecture.
After graduation, he lived in NY, working for Edward Durrell Stone the internationally renowned architect before moving to South Windsor in 1969. Greg opened Gregory Louis Montana and Associates and worked on several local municipal buildings, offices, multi-housing complexes and private residences all over CT.

An all-round athlete and lover of the outdoors, Gregory was an avid hunter and fresh water fly fisherman and award winning fly tier. He also enjoyed giant tuna fishing, catching trophy fish on several occasions. A member of Ellington Ridge Country Club for many years, his golfing achievements were crowned by scoring a Double Eagle.
Greg was a total extrovert and entertained many friends with his unbelievable adventures and activities. His gourmet cooking enhanced many wonderful picnics at Tanglewood as he loved classical music and the Tanglewood ambiance.

In addition to his beloved wife of 56 years, Marshall, he is survived by two sons, Garrick Montana and fiancée Kendl Murphy of New Haven, and Matthew Montana and his wife, Arne of South Windsor; two grandchildren, John and Sidney Montana as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Alfred Montana.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2018, 11 a.m., at St. Margaret Mary Church, 80 Hayes Road, South Windsor. Gregory’s family will receive friends prior to the Mass at 10:30 a.m. at the church. A private burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Gregory’s memory may be made to the South Windsor Land Conservation Trust, Inc, P.O. Box 415, East Windsor Hill, CT 06028. or to the Lung Cancer Research Foundation, 155 East 55th St., New York, NY 10022.
