SOUTH WINDSOR, CT - Trappers have removed three beavers that felled nearly 200 trees at Nevers Park in the last year, according to The Journal-Inquirer. The beavers are likely to be euthanized.
Town officials said the beavers have become hazardous as they have knocked down nearly 200 trees.
This leads to flooding and stagnant water that attracts mosquitoes, posing a public safety risk and damaging property.

Trapping and killing the beavers is used as a last resort when other options for getting the beavers to leave the park haven't worked, town officials said.
Some residents oppose the effort. In a letter to Patch, one resident said: "It saddens me that South Windsor officials decided to exterminate the beavers. Park walkers enjoy observing wildlife as we walk the wooded trails. Beavers create habitat for other species. They reduce trees , allow more sunlight into the woods allowing other plant life to grow."
