Girls Holiday Basketball Tournament Cancelled After Threat Targeted at East Lyme

The message was posted on the social media site "Yik Yak" on Christmas Eve.

Superintendent of schools James Lombardo has cancelled the girls holiday basketball tournament scheduled for tonight at East Lyme High School, the Day of New London reports.

The cancellations comes after a threat was made against the town of East Lyme on the social media website “Yik Yak”.

According to WFSB, the threat stated “better get ready for the hail of bullets. I’ve been bullied so long and after break I’m going to let all my anger out.” State Police, the East Lyme Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are looking into the threat.

Lombardo said although the threat was not made directly against the schools, officials are treating the threat as a serious matter, the paper reports. Lombardo will decide tomorrow whether to cancel the boys game scheduled for Tuesday.

The two games scheduled for tonight were East Lyme vs. Granby at 5:30 p.m. and St. Bernard vs. Canton in a championship game at 7 p.m.

The East Lyme Police Department announced on Facebook, “In response to the recent threatening post, the East Lyme Police, State Police and FBI are actively investigating. Should you have information pertaining to this investigation please contact the East Lyme Police at 860-739-5900.”
