Police: Man, 74, Charged with Attempted Murder for Trying to Stab Wife During Argument

A man faces several charges, including attempted murder, after allegedly repeatedly attempting to stab his wife during an argument over how he raised his adult children.

Bajram Skenderi, 74, was arrested Sunday after West Hartford Police officers responded to an active domestic violence call reported as a “father trying to stab the mother” at a Walden Street residence on Sunday.

Police said that Skenderi and wife life in Kosovo and are currently in the United States visiting their daughter and her family in West Hartford.

When officers arrive on the scene they found that the homeowner had successfully removed the knife from the Skenderi (his father-in-law) and had also restrained him until the officers arrived.

Police said that Skenderi had repeatedly attempted to stab his wife after getting into an argument with her over the manner in which he had raised his adult children. The victim was able to defend herself until her son—in-law heard her screams and subsequently detained Skenderi.

The victim sustained defensive knife wounds to her hands and was later transported to Hartford Hospital after experiencing chest pain, according to police.

Police said Skenderi sustained a laceration to his head after striking his head against the wall while struggling with his wife.

Skenderi was arrested on charges of criminal attempt to commit murder, third-degree assault of elderly, second-degree unlawful restraint, second-degree threatening and disorderly conduct. He was held on a $1 million bond.
