Reckless Driving, Burglary: Dec. 26 - Jan. 1 Wilton PD Arrest Log

WILTON, CT — Reckless driving, a 2022 burglary, and a forged check were at the top of the Wilton Police Department's arrest log last week.

On Dec. 27, Wilton police arrested Jared Taylor, 40, of Cossitt Road in Norwalk for an incident that occurred on Oct. 25.

Police say Taylor drove recklessly through an elementary school parking lot. He then engaged officers in pursuit in a 1990 Ford F350 pickup truck with a juvenile in the back seat, according to police.

Taylor was charged with risk of injury to a child, engaging police in a pursuit, reckless driving, driving without a license, and failure to display lights. He was released after posting his $25,000 bond and being scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Jan. 8.

The Torrington Police Department took Michael C. Hernandez into custody on Dec. 27, based on an active arrest warrant held by the Wilton PD. Hernandez is being accused of breaking into a South Wilton business in December 2022.

Hernandez, 28, of Funston Avenue in Torrington, was taken to Wilton Police HQ, where he was processed, fingerprinted and photographed. He was charged with third-degree burglary, second-degree larceny, and organized retail theft of less than $10,000. He was transported to Stamford Superior Court for an appearance on Dec. 28.

In October 2022, a Wilton resident reported a personal check stolen from their mailbox that was subsequently altered to a different payee and a higher dollar amount. After an investigation, the Wilton PD learned that the altered check was deposited into a bank account owned and controlled by Carlos Salazar, 28, of New York, NY. An arrest warrant was obtained and Salazar surrendered himself to the Wilton Police Department on Dec. 28.

Police charged Salazar with second-degree larceny, first-degree identity theft and third-degree forgery. He is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Jan. 11.
