Wilton Fire Department Issues Fireworks Warning [VIDEO]

It's the busiest day of the year for hospital emergency rooms. Here's how Wilton residents can stay safe and whole this Fourth of July.

WILTON, CT — The Wilton Fire Department is reminding residents to celebrate the Fourth of July safely.

"Not only are fireworks dangerous, they are, with the exception of sparklers and fountains, illegal," Wilton fire officials warned Monday.

Children should never be allowed to play with or ignite fireworks, the WFD advised parents.

"Sparklers burn at 1200 degrees and can cause serious injuries. Consumer Product Safety Commission data for 2021 shows 1,100 emergency room visits involving sparklers, nearly all on or around July 4th. Injuries from firecrackers were slightly higher at 1,500 and there were also 9 deaths," the Wilton Fire Department said in a news release Monday. "Closer to home, Wilton had a serious house fire last year caused by backyard fireworks."

Wilton’s Independence Day celebration will be held Tuesday, July 4 at the Wilton High School Complex at 395 Danbury Road. More details about that event, and other fireworks shows in the area, can be found online here.
