19 New Coronavirus Deaths in DC; Positive Cases Now Exceed 2,000
D.C. health officials confirmed 19 new coronavirus cases in the District, bringing the total number of people killed by the virus to 67.

WASHINGTON, DC — The D.C. Department of Health confirmed 15 new deaths Tuesday related to the coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, bringing the total number of District deaths caused by the virus to 67. D.C. Health also confirmed 103 new positive coronavirus cases, which brings the District’s overall positive case total to 2,058.
The new deaths were described as:
- 31-year-old male
- 37-year-old male
- 51-year-old male
- 51-year-old male
- 58-year-old male
- 62-year-old male
- 67-year-old male
- 77-year-old male
- 79-year-old male
- 81-year-old female
- 81-year-old female
- 82-year-old male
- 83-year-old female
- 87-year-old female
- 93-year-old female.
On Monday, Mayor Muriel Bowser said that the District has increased coronavirus testing from 300 tests per 1 million persons on March 18 to about 18,300 per million persons on April 11.

Since March 30, the Public Health Lab has been using equipment that processes 500 samples per day. The District had 5,447 sampling kits/swabs and 6,834 tests on hand as of April 10.
To date, the Public Health Lab has been conducting molecular tests to detect the coronavirus. In May, the lab will begin using serology tests to look for the coronavirus in antibodies. This new testing will help to determine if patients have developed an immunity to the virus.

As part of its COVID-19 response, the District opened 10 new weekday grocery pickup sites, where D.C. residents can pick up grocery bags filled with food and dry goods on a first come, first serve basis.
On Tuesday, Bowser revealed emergency rulemaking that allows registered dispensaries to deliver medical marijuana to qualified patients in the District.
