2nd Degree Murder Charge In Fatal Stabbing Of Northeast Man

D.C. homicide detectives arrested a Northeast man in connection with the fatal stabbing of another man in the Benning area.

WASHINGTON, DC — Metropolitan Police Department homicide detectives arrested a Northeast man in connection with the fatal stabbing of a man Friday in Benning, according to a police release.

Around 11:56 p.m., officers from the Sixth District responded to the report of a stabbing in the 4000 block of Clay Place, N.E. They found an unconscious man inside a residence suffering from a stab wound. D.C. Fire and EMS transported the victim to a nearby hospital, but all life-saving efforts failed, and he was pronounced dead. Police identified the decedent as Cornell Mason, 33, of Northeast.

An investigation revealed the stabbing was domestic in nature.

On Saturday, MPD arrested Phillip Humphrey, 44, of Northeast, and charged him with second degree murder.
