3 Men Who Pleaded Guilty To Fatal Shooting Of Davon McNeal Sentenced

Three District men who pleaded guilty for their roles in the July 4, 2020 fatal shooting of 11-year-old Davon McNeal were sentenced Friday.

WASHINGTON, DC — Three men, who admitted to their roles in the fatal shooting of 11-year-0ld Davon McNeal on July 4, 2020, were sentenced in federal court on Friday, according to a release.

All three of the men, who are from Washington, D.C., pleaded guilty on Feb. 22 to voluntary manslaughter while armed.

On Friday, Carlo General, 21; Marcel Gordon, 27; and Christen Wingfield, 24; each received sentences of 16 years, 10 years, and 9 1/2 years, respectively. Once they've finished their sentences, they'll each be placed on five years of supervised release, according to court documents.

Daryle Bond, 20, of Washington, D.C., also pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter while armed in February for his role in McNeal's death. He's scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 4. He faces between 7 ½-to-9 ½- years in prison based upon his plea agreement.

Early in the evening on July 4, 2020, Davon attended a July 4th cookout outside the Douglass Garden Apartment Complex in Southwest Washington, D.C.

Surveillance footage taken around 9:15 p.m, showed General, who was armed with a firearm, and Bond, Gordon, and Wingfield at the apartment complex, according to court documents. McNeal is seen running toward a basement apartment. General fires his weapon and McNeal then falls to the ground, according to authorities.

Six seconds later, the video shows Gordon, running behind General, and firing a weapon in the same direction. Bond and Winfield are also armed, according to police. After gathering together, the group runs toward a nearby playground with their guns drawn. As they run away, Bond, General and Gordon fire their weapons, according to court documents.

Police arrested Bond, Wingfield and General in July 2020, with Gordon being arrested the following September. All four have been in custody since their arrests.
