DC Area Turkey Trot Participants To Exceed 20,000: Report

WASHINGTON, DC — With at least 16 turkey trots on the schedule for Nov. 28, more than 20,000 people are expected to run in road races Thanksgiving Day 2019 in the Washington, D.C., area.

On Thanksgiving Day 2018, more than 21,200 runners finished 13 turkey trots in the D.C. region. The number of runners should grow this Thanksgiving with more races lined up, according to a Run Washington report. The total number of runners in 2018 was probably much larger because it did not include participants in fun runs, walks and tot trots, the running website reported.

Run Washington noted that aside from hugely popular races like the Army Ten-Miler in mid-October, the Marine Corps Marathon in late October and the Cherry Blossom Ten Mile in April, each of which draws runners from across the country and elite runners from around the world, Thanksgiving is the busiest day for road racing in the D.C. area.
