DC Teen Faces Homicide Charge In April Shooting: Police

Metropolitan Police Department homicide detectives arrested a fourth suspect in connection with an April 29 fatal shooting.

WASHINGTON, DC — Metropolitan Police Department homicide detectives charged a fourth suspect Thursday in connection with an April 29 fatal shooting, according to a police release. Police previously identified the deceased suspect as Devonte Speight, 26, of Northwest.

Around 4:07 p.m., officers from the Fifth District responded to the 1800 block of Maryland Avenue, N.E., after hearing the sound of gunshots. They found Spreight unconscious and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. D.C. Fire and EMS transported him to a nearby hospital, but all life-saving efforts failed and he was pronounced dead.

Later that same day, officers arrested Derrick Kearney, 24, of Southeast; Daquan Anglin, 24, of Laurel, Maryland; and a 16 year-old male, of Southeast, and charged them with first degree murder while armed (felony murder).

Acting on a D.C. Superior Court custody order Thursday, detectives arrested a 15 year-old male, of Northeast, and charged him with first degree murder while armed (felony murder).

The U.S. Park Police and the Metro Transit Police Department assisted MPD on this case.
