'DC Bike Ride' Causing Major Road Closures This Weekend, Here's Where to Avoid [MAP]

Police are shutting down a number of roads in downtown D.C. -- and even the HOV lanes of I-395 into Arlington -- for the 2016 D.C. Bike Ride on Sunday.

The Metropolitan Police Department and the Department of Transportation will be closing a number of roads along the National Mall and in Southwest especially, according to a statement. Authorities will also be closing the HOV lanes on I-395 all the way to the Eads Street exit in Arlington.

The closures will largely be in effect from 6:15 a.m. until 11 a.m. on May 22.

The D.C. Bike Ride is a 17-mile ride through the city. Participants are invited to "cruise the city at your own pace," the website states. There will be a Finish Line Festival on Pennsylvania Avenue near the Capitol at the end of the race.

The following streets will be closed on Saturday, May 21, 2016 from 11:00 pm, until midnight (12:00 am) on Sunday, May 22, 2016:

• Pennsylvania Avenue, NW between 3rd and 7th Streets, NW
• Constitution Avenue, NW between Pennsylvania Avenue, NW and 7th Street, NW

The following streets will be closed on Sunday, May 22, 2016, from 6:15 am (unless otherwise marked) until 11:00 am:

• 1st Street, NW from Pennsylvania Avenue, NW to Maryland Avenue SW
• Maryland Avenue, SW from 1st Street, NW to 3rd Street, NW
• 3rd Street, SW from Maryland Avenue, SW to Pennsylvania Avenue, SW
• Independence Avenue, SW from 7th Street, SW to 3rd Street, SW
• 7th Street, SW from Independence Avenue, SW to Maine Avenue, SW
• Maine Avenue, SW from 395 Exit Ramp (Treasury Building) to 7th Street, SW
• 14th Street, NW from Constitution Avenue, NW to the 14th Street Bridge
• 395 HOV Lanes from the 14th Street Bridge to S. Eads St Exit (Closed at 8:00 am)
• Constitution Avenue, NW from 14th Street, NW to 18th Street NW
• 18th Street, NW from E Street, NW to Constitution Avenue, NW
