Election results for Orange Park and Green Cove Springs (jaxtoday.org) — Green Cove Springs voters have chosen Tom Centracchio over incumbent Ed Gaw for City Council and approved one of three charter changes, including allowing notaries to swear in council members. Residents also rejected proposals to loosen residency rules for the city manager and city attorney, while Orange Park voters returned Doug Benefield to its Town Council.
   

2. Clay County under countywide burn ban (actionnewsjax.com) — If you live just outside Green Cove Springs city limits, a new Clay County burn ban now prohibits outdoor burning in unincorporated areas because of extreme drought and wildfire risk. Campfires, fire pits, and yard debris burning are off-limits, though outdoor grilling is still allowed. The ban will stay in place until enough rain arrives, and violations can bring fines and criminal charges.
   

3. DAR presents Women in American History Award to Augusta Savage (claytodayonline.com) — Green Cove Springs native and renowned Harlem Renaissance sculptor Augusta Savage has been honored with the DAR’s Women in American History Award, highlighting her national impact and local roots. Her legacy continues at the Augusta Savage Arts & Community Center in her former high school building in Green Cove Springs, where supporters are working to keep her story alive.
   

4. FL Middle School Boys with PR's in April - Sprints & Hurdles (milesplit.com) — Middle school track athletes from Green Cove Springs Junior High are listed among Florida boys posting personal records this April in sprints and hurdles. The statewide rankings highlight improved times at meets like the NEFAC Junior High Championships. It’s a data-heavy rundown, but it does show how local runners stack up against competition across Florida.
