A total of six trees were donated as part of the initiative, including two sweetbay magnolias, two crape myrtles and two bald cypress, selected for their durability and ability to thrive in South Florida&rsquo;s climate. The trees were delivered the day of the presentation and staged in advance, with the City&rsquo;s public works team assisting with site preparation and placement ahead of a ceremonial planting.

City officials, including District Commissioner Maria Rodriguez, and representatives from Subaru of Pembroke Pines were in attendance. The event featured a ceremonial planting, along with photo opportunities and a commemorative moment marking the partnership between Subaru of Pembroke Pines and the City. A plaque was installed on-site to commemorate the donation.

The transaction closed on March 31, 2026.
The acquisition was completed as part of a broader programmatic joint venture between Basis Industrial and OneIM that, including leverage, is expected to aggregate and own between $1 billion and $1.5 billion in industrial properties across the United States. The venture will be seeded with the acquisition of the referenced portfolio. 
The off-market acquisition includes the Breckinridge Shallow Bay Portfolio in Duluth, Ga., totaling 558,074 square feet; Lake Point Business Park in Orlando, Fla., totaling 134,389 square feet; and Challenger South I and II in Orlando, Fla., totaling 146,538 square feet.
The investment aligns with the joint venture&rsquo;s strategy to acquire and operate multi-tenant industrial assets, with a focus on creating long-term value creation through active management. The portfolio provides immediate scale across two high-growth markets and is focused on shallow bay industrial assets in well-located submarkets.

The award also acknowledges their embodiment of the organization&rsquo;s anti-violence workshop principles of being SAFE (Smart about who they surround themselves with, Alert to their surroundings, Fearless about getting out of life-threatening situations, and Engaged in the fight to end gun violence in their communities).
Ernecia joined the program in 2024 facing significant academic and personal obstacles. Raised in a single-parent household in the inner city, she entered the program academically behind by three grade levels and navigating circumstances that often sideline young people before they reach graduation.
Instead of allowing those challenges to define her, Ernecia made the decision to redefine herself. Through consistent mentoring, discipline and a relentless commitment to improvement, she steadily closed academic gaps and rebuilt her confidence. Along the way, she stepped outside her comfort zone and earned a spot on the Girls Varsity Flag Football Team at Palm Beach Gardens High School, a milestone that reflects not only athletic growth but personal transformation.
Today, Ernecia is on track to graduate with the Class of 2026 and has set her sights on higher education. Following graduation, she plans to attend Palm Beach State College in the fall, where she intends to study pre-law. 
Ernecia will use the $1,000 scholarship to open her first savings account, taking an intentional step toward building long-term financial stability. Rather than focusing on immediate spending, she has chosen to invest in her future, demonstrating maturity and forward-thinking beyond her years.
At the ceremony, Inner City Innovators Founder and Executive Director Ricky Aiken reflected on her journey, noting how her growth embodies the heart of the Hope Dealer Mentoring Program.

<a href="https://bgcmia.org/" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank">Boys &amp; Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade</a> is proud to announce it has named Sebastian Garcia (17), its 2026 Youth of the Year. A panel of community partners served as the judges to select this year's Youth of the Year.

To achieve the title of Youth of the Year on any level, Club members must embody the values of leadership and service, academic excellence and a healthy lifestyle. They should exemplify the critical impact that Boys &amp; Girls Clubs have on the lives of young people. The scoring includes candidate essays, an interview, a speech, letters of recommendation and overall application quality.

Garcia, a senior at Miami Beach Senior High School, is a member of the South Beach Club. Born and raised in Miami, FL, Garcia has made a lasting impact at the Club by speaking up for others, fostering a positive environment and stepping up as a leader. He participated in Project Blue Whale, which deepened his commitment to leadership, and took part in Boys &amp; Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade&rsquo;s annual &ldquo;Wild About Kid&rdquo; Gala and Claws for Kids.
Beyond the Club, Garcia serves as president of the 5,000 Role Models, is a member of the Student Government Association and the Yearbook Club and was part of the varsity football team. He carries a 3.8 GPA and is set to graduate in June 2026.

Garcia has been accepted to Suffolk University, with additional college decisions still pending. He hopes to attend Boston College or Louisiana State University, where he plans to major in business marketing. His long-term goal is to hold a position as head of marketing, president or CEO of a Fortune 500 company.

&ldquo;Being involved in Boys &amp; Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade means having a place that I can call a second home, a place where I can grow as a leader and be able to support and give back to the community and others," said Garcia. &ldquo;I want to continue using my voice to advocate for others and inspire the people around me. My goal is to keep growing as a leader and make a positive impact wherever I go.&rdquo;

&ldquo;Sebastian is a shining example of what it means to be a Boys &amp; Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade member,&rdquo; said Boys &amp; Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade President Alex Rodriguez-Roig. &ldquo;He has demonstrated outstanding leadership, a deep commitment to his community and an unwavering drive to succeed. We are incredibly proud to name him our 2026 Youth of the Year and look forward to watching him represent Boys &amp; Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade at the state level.&rdquo;

Garcia and other teens from Florida Boys &amp; Girls Clubs competed for the 2026 Florida Youth of the Year title. The winner of the state title received a $2,500 scholarship, laptop and printer.

Every year since 1955, youth from various Boys &amp; Girls Clubs across Florida have competed for the opportunity to represent Florida as the Florida Youth of the Year. The winner of the state title then competes in the regional competition. Five regional winners then move on, and one is named the Boys &amp; Girls Clubs of America National Youth of the Year.

The National Youth of the Year serves as both an exemplary ambassador for Boys &amp; Girls Clubs youth and as a strong voice for all the nation's young people. He/she receives a new car courtesy of Toyota, as well as scholarships and cash totaling $60,000. The National Youth of the Year, along with the other four regional runners-up, then travel to Washington, D.C. and speak to members of Congress and meet the President of the United States.

Disney On Ice presents Mickey’s Search Party Brings the Magic to Miami 

On Sunday, March 15, the South Florida community united in catpassion to celebrate &ldquo;Cats + Hard Hats,&rdquo; marking a major milestone in building the new home of the Ayers Feline Adoption Center at <a href="https://www.purrr.org/" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank">PURRR Adoption + Sanctuary</a> (PURRR).
Feline fanatics enjoyed bubbles and brunch bites while toasting to committed supporters Jon and Helaine Ayers $1 million leadership gift to advance the expansion of PURRR&rsquo;s services and deepen its impact in the community. The event kicked off PURRR&rsquo;s capital campaign, &ldquo;Unite in Catpassion.&rdquo; The campaign supports the development of the Ayers Feline Adoption Center, a major expansion that will increase medical capacity, spay + neuter services, and adoption opportunities for cats across South Florida.
Guests heard remarks from City of Oakland Park Mayor Steven R. Arnst, PURRR Adoption + Sanctuary Founder Tanya Lynn Heller, Interim Executive Director Ken Hansted and Veterinarian and Board Member Dr. Ross Fischer. Following the ceremony, guests were treated to a guided tour of PURRR's facility, where representatives shared the vision for the new center and its expanded programming.
The Ayers&rsquo; investment will help usher in a new era for PURRR, centered on greater access, enhanced care and expanded opportunities for both cats and the families who love them. Through their philanthropy, the Ayers are strengthening PURRR&rsquo;s infrastructure while investing in a compassionate, sustainable future for cats across the community.
This renovation, led by FLM Construction, includes a comprehensive renovation of PURRR&rsquo;s surgical center, allowing the organization to increase surgical operations from two days a week to five. The renovation will encompass approximately 3,000 square feet on the first level and an additional 3,000 square feet on the second level, significantly expanding the organization&rsquo;s footprint.
PURRR will expand its surgical suite to accommodate two to three surgical tables, further increasing capacity and enabling the team to serve more cats in need. The enhanced medical space will include an on-site laboratory and 11 designated living areas for cats, including quarantine, isolation and nursery spaces designed to ensure safety, recovery and comfort.
By significantly expanding its medical capabilities, PURRR will reduce wait times and provide critical spay + neuter services, vaccinations and other lifesaving procedures. The organization will also broaden its commitment to accessibility by offering more affordable medical services, helping ensure cost is never a barrier to responsible pet ownership.
The enhanced facility will create additional space to house and showcase adoptable cats, increasing adoption opportunities and helping more animals find safe, loving homes. The center will also serve as an educational hub, providing pet owners with resources, guidance and community support.
Plans include the creation of a welcoming cat caf&eacute; and lounge, where visitors can spend time with adoptable cats in a relaxed environment while enjoying light refreshments. A dedicated flex space will host community education programs and other interactive events, such as kitty yoga. 
Construction for the Ayers Feline Adoption Center began on March 16, and the project is expected to be completed by Q1 of 2027.
