• ECUA Board Suspends Backflow Letters, Seeks Cheaper Options for 3,400 Homes City of Pensacola (opgov.news) — ECUA has paused its backflow compliance letters while it searches for cheaper, more flexible ways for about 4,800 well-using homes, including many in Pensacola, to meet state rules. Board members want options like lower-interest, longer-term payment plans and possibly ECUA-installed devices, aiming to protect public health without threatening water shutoffs for on-time customers.
   

• 'One of the fiercest to serve': Neglected puppy becomes Florida police K-9 (wfla.com) — A once-neglected Belgian Malinois puppy has grown into K-9 Redden, now serving with the Pensacola Police Department after a year of specialized training. Assigned to the Patrol Division, Redden helps catch suspects and handle scent-based tasks across the city. Local rescuers and officers who helped him along the way are celebrating his transformation into a working dog protecting Pensacola residents.
   

• West Florida wins first-ever game as a D-I football program (wkrg.com) — University of West Florida football fans in Pensacola just watched history, as the Argos won their first-ever game as a Division I program, edging Southern Illinois 37-34 at Pen-Air Field. Despite being outgained in total yards, West Florida capitalized on turnovers and big defensive plays to secure the home victory. The team now heads on the road to face Central Arkansas on Sept. 5.
