“If I knew then what I (know) now, I would have declined to represent Donald Trump in these post-challenges. I look back on this experience with deep remorse. ... I failed to do my due diligence. ... In the wake of the 2020 presidential election, I believed that challenging the results on behalf of President Trump should be pursued in a just and legal way … I endeavored to represent my client to the best of my ability."

Ellis became the fourth co-defendant of 19 total to accept a plea deal in the massive election interference case in Fulton County, during which Trump faces several charges- becoming the first former president to be booked into a jail and have his mugshot taken. The group is accused of trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia, where Trump lost the election to President Joe Biden.

The AJC reported Ellis "must serve five years probation, 100 hours of community service and pay $5,000 in restitution to the Georgia Secretary of State’s office. She agreed to testify truthfully when called, provide documents and other evidence, refrain from posting about the case on social media and to pen an apology letter to Georgia voters."

Ellis' plea deal comes after three other defendants - bail bondsman Scott Hall, ex-Trump attorney Sidney Powell and ex-Trump attorney Kenneth Chesebro - negotiated their own deals.
