• Produce Safety Alliance Grower Training (Bacon Co., Sept. 2026) (uga.edu) — Local produce growers can attend a full-day Food Safety Modernization Act Produce Safety training at the UGA Bacon County Extension Office in Alma on September 17, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The workshop covers hygiene, water safety, soil amendments, wildlife risks, and building a farm food safety plan, with registration open until September 12 and a clear refund policy for cancellations.
   

• Mr. Steve D. Johnson (wnegradio.com) — Family and friends are mourning Steve D. Johnson, who was born and raised in Alma and later served three decades with Georgia’s Department of Natural Resources. A memorial service is planned for Sunday, August 9, in Toccoa, with flowers or donations to the American Cancer Society welcomed in his memory.
