Homicide Sgt. Michael Burrow said Friday a "lucrative" dice game was taking place and an argument ensued afterwards outside of the bowling alley, leading to the shooting of Takeoff.

Burrow said the dice game and the argument did not involve Takeoff, and the rapper was not armed. He was an innocent bystander, Burrow said.

Finner said Takeoff was "in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner called the shooting an example of "one young man taking the life of another young man for no reason."

He said he hoped the arrest brought some sense of comfort to Takeoff's family though it cannot bring Takeoff back.

Investigators said at least 30 people were on the scene, and investigators are searching for some of them for questioning.

Finner urged "people to step up and say something."

Turner, who called the shooting unfortunate, said discharging a gun can have deadly consequences that cannot be undone.

"You can’t come and commit murder in this city and expect to not get caught," he said.

Finner said not many more details will be released in the case at this time.
