Atlanta Spot Among America's 'Best Steakhouses'

Thrillist named the 31 best steakhouses in the U.S. Only one Georgia eatery made the list.

ATLANTA, GA — Game on Atlanta. Just a few months after a publication named Bone's in Buckhead the best steakhouse in Georgia, another food chronicler has proclaimed Kevin Rathbun Steak one of the 31 Best Steakhouses in America. Rathbun's also won recognition earlier this year from Travel+ Leisure.

Thrillist just picked its 31 Best Steakhouses In America, and Kevin Rathbun Steak, 154 Krog Street in Atlanta, made the cut, so to speak. Meaty offerings on the menu include dry aged for two, a dry-aged cowboy ribeye, and a 12-ounce prime wagyu ribeye burger.

The list highlights the steakhouse as a staple while food trends come and go, "waiting to welcome special-occasion celebrators, expense-account abusers, and anyone else who just really likes steak served up with a seared, juicy symbol of American excess. The enduring appeal of a perfectly cooked piece of beef explains why so many of our finest steakhouses (including many on this list) have been with us for generations, and why even the new entrants into the game are hesitant to mess with the format TOO much. Rathbun's is located in a former cotton warehouse and features prime steaks from Allen Brothers in Chicago along with a menu that expands to over 50 items. The website says it offers a "new modernized atmosphere and menu" of a steakhouse by incorporating more seafood, alternative meats, new and creative appetizers and a list of over 15 sides." Meals use local produce and organic meats.

"The former Iron Chef-testant and Atlanta dining titan remains perched at the top of the city's steakhouse hierarchy, with an eclectically influenced menu (classic French escargot, comfort food-channeling jack cheese 'n pecan fritters, Asian-influenced mushroom soy-glazed meatballs) that might prove too meandering in lesser hands. Here it's just a prelude to Georgia's finest steak experience. Order yours "blue" if you're feeling particularly bold and don't mind a cool center, though if you're splitting the dry-aged steak for two, make sure your dining companion is cool with it first."
