Hurricane Irma: LATEST UPDATE, Need-To-Know Facts

Georgia is assessing Hurricane Irma destruction, including more than a million power outages and 3 deaths. Here's what you need to know.

Georgia began picking up the pieces the day after Hurricane Irma ripped through the Peach State Tuesday. Residents woke up to widespread power outages, as schools remained closed and the state grappled with the loss of life in three separate tragic accidents. Throughout the day, we learned of road closures and gas shortages across the state, and some school systems decided to close for another day.

The storm that was once Hurricane Irma pushed through Georgia Monday night, leaving more than a million residents without power and capping off days of preparation. The storm forced Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority to suspend bus and rail service, and Delta cancelled 800 flights out of its hub airport. All of Georgia’s 159 counties were under a state of emergency. Tuesday, however, the state turned toward clean-up and assessing damage.
