The ranking shows Georgia's billionaire class growing alongside national trends, with several Atlanta-linked fortunes and many newcomers driven by artificial intelligence ventures.
   

2. MARTA asking state leaders to help fund safety upgrades (wsbtv.com) — MARTA's new CEO is pushing for state and federal funding to improve safety on Atlanta's transit system, which currently relies heavily on local sales taxes and fares. With the World Cup coming and a federal safety investigation underway, he's asking metro Atlanta residents and Georgia lawmakers to back more officers, infrastructure repairs, and security upgrades across the network.
   

3. Family desperate for answers nearly 4 years after 19-year-old killed in Atlanta apartment shooting (11alive.com) — An Atlanta family is renewing its plea for answers nearly four years after 19-year-old Georgia State student Malang Touray was fatally shot at an Atlanta apartment complex on Campbellton Road. With no arrest and limited evidence, Atlanta police canvassed the area again as relatives offered a $10,000 reward and urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers or homicide detectives.
   

4. Georgia set to receive more than $43 million in grants to help veterans facing homelessness (wsbradio.com) — Veterans in and around Atlanta could see more housing support soon, as Georgia organizations, including the Atlanta VA Health Care System, share over $43 million in federal grants. Starting October 1, the money will fund programs that prevent homelessness, provide transitional housing, and target help for women, older veterans, and those with serious health challenges.
   

5. Georgia Tech is keeping trash out of landfills with new upcycling technology (wsbtv.com) — Georgia Tech in Atlanta is testing new upcycling technology that turns everyday plastic waste, like takeout containers and cups, into useful products in minutes. Inside the campus Trash Lab, students and researchers use a miniTrashpresso machine to create items such as chargers and sunglasses, aiming to cut landfill waste, reduce transport needs, and inspire new local manufacturing ideas.
