Arts in the Heart of Augusta adds new ways to get to this year's festival (wrdw.com) — Arts in the Heart of Augusta is moving to the Augusta Exchange Club Fairgrounds this year, and organizers have lined up new ways to get you there. With Pedal Pub Augusta routes, free Augusta Public Transit shuttles for badge holders, and multiple downtown parking options, residents can still enjoy the full festival experience while supporting downtown businesses all weekend.
   

2. Augusta Tiny Home Community Opens Next Month to Support Foster Youth (wgac.com) — Augusta is about to open its first tiny home community for young adults aging out of foster care, located at 1140 Merry Street. At the October 14 grand opening, residents, supporters, and local chambers will celebrate a project that pairs affordable housing with education, job training, and life-skills coaching to give vulnerable youth a stable start in adulthood.
   

3. Augusta Youth, HS Sports Teams Adjust Practice Times, Safety Rules as Heat Increases (wgac.com) — Youth and high school teams around Augusta are shifting practices indoors, shortening sessions, and dropping pads as dangerous heat pushes coaches to rethink safety. Leaders at Hephzibah and Aquinas high schools describe strict wet-bulb monitoring, extra water, cooling towels, tents, and fans, while a sports health expert warns that kids face higher risks of heat-related illness than adults.
   

4. Augusta tourism leaders launch staycation contest and new downtown campaigns (wrdw.com) — Downtown Augusta businesses are getting a boost from a new four‑month Staycation Contest that rewards shoppers with chances to win local getaway packages. By buying from participating restaurants, retailers, and attractions and submitting receipts at Augusta & Co., residents can both support construction-affected businesses and enter monthly drawings for curated Augusta lodging, dining, and entertainment experiences.
   

5. Georgia Supreme Court upholds conviction in killing of Augusta DJ (augustachronicle.com) — A Georgia Supreme Court ruling has upheld the conviction of a Hephzibah man for the 1997 robbery and murder of Augusta radio DJ Irene Shields, who worked at WFXA-FM. Justices rejected arguments about weak evidence, poor legal representation, appeal delays, and misleading testimony, leaving his life sentence in place and closing another chapter in a long-running case tied closely to Augusta's media community.
