MCG alum honored for decades of service to Georgia children (theaugustapress.com) — Children's health care in Augusta looks very different today thanks to pediatric surgeon Dr. Charles "Charlie" Howell Jr., who helped push for the city's dedicated children's hospital. Now honored with a top University System of Georgia award, he's credited with thousands of surgeries, training new doctors, and strengthening Augusta University, the hospital, and the Ronald McDonald House.

The directors of Lucy Craft Laney Museum and Meadow Garden both chosen for national oral history project (theaugustapress.com) — Augusta's own history experts are taking the city's story national, as the directors of the Lucy Craft Laney Museum and Meadow Garden join the "Our American Story" oral history project. Their work highlighting Augusta's Black history and George Walton's legacy will now help shape how the nation commemorates America's 250th anniversary.

Columbia County pitches Google project as path to property tax relief (augustachronicle.com) — Columbia County leaders say they're close to a deal with Google for a massive data center in the Augusta area, promising billions in revenue and potential property tax relief. The proposed 8‑million‑square‑foot facility at White Oak Technology Park has also drawn pushback from nearby rural residents worried about heavy water and power use. Negotiations continue on a memorandum of understanding.

4. 12-foot gator pulled out of Savannah River (wfxg.com) — If you fish or boat on the Savannah River near Augusta, you'll want to see the 12½-foot, nearly 600‑pound alligator two local men recently hauled in. Their hours-long struggle, just miles from a recent bite incident, ended with the gator headed for processing and plenty of future belts, wallets and stories for local families.
